Shooting Tips & Supplied Video Requirements
If you are planning on shooting the voice-on-camera sections yourself or are providing other video elements, here are some
requirements to keep in mind:
- We only accept footage on BetaCam SP, DVCPRO50/25, DV, DVCAM, or miniDV. We cannot accept any footage shot on other formats (such as 3/4", VHS, 8mm, DVD, HDV, etc.)
- If we do not have the appropriate running footage on-file, the dealership must supply it. Contact Ray Proya for
a current list of our running footage.
- If using certain vehicles in your customized inserts, be as specific as possible in picking the shots. If you are providing running footage, use timecode
markers if possible. This will ensure we use the correct vehicle model with your price point(s).
- If you choose not to incorporate running footage in your customization, please provide appropriately-sized images for use in your commercial.
Or, at the very least, provide links to webpages that contain the proper images.
- If shooting your spokesperson for chroma-key, please be sure of the following:
- Use proper lighting on the subject, and make sure the color wall is evenly lit. (See an example
...) Also, use a hair light if possible (this light is sometimes referred to
as a "kicker"). This will better separate the talent from the background and make for a cleaner key.
- Use the industry-standard color blue or green screen. Again, proper lighting techniques will result in the best chroma-key.
- Don't frame the shot as if it was a mug shot! Stand the talent at least 6-8 feet in front of the color wall.
- Fill the frame! Don't worry about placing the talent in the shot. We can move
and resize the subject as needed when we key-out the background. Shoot waist-to-head or knee-to-head, and
keep the talent as large as possible in the frame.
- Practice proper mic placement! A Lavalier on the tie or lapel of the talent will yield the best results. A boom-mic
on a stand just above and in front of the talent will also provide adequate audio. Don't worry if you see the mic
in the shot (as in this example
); we can easily crop it out.
- Make sure the on-camera talent maintains eye-contact with the camera for at least 3 seconds after
they are done delivering their read.
APPROVAL PROCESS:
Once we've completed your insert(s), we will email you a video for you to approve before we send the final master. It it your responsibility to ensure all elements meet any brand requirements. This includes checking the disclaimers and any requirements for co-op approval. Please review the emailed videos carefully. We cannot be held responsible if an improper logo or other element is used in your insert. If you need higher-resolution screen captures to review any disclaimers, please ask.
If you are also sending us graphical elements for use in your custom insert(s), please review our requirements for scripts and graphics.
While we will do our best to use whatever you may give us, we cannot be held responsible for an unsatistactory end-product if the elements you provide do not
meet these basic minimum requirements.
For more information on these requirements, or to inquire about how we can customize your spots for you, please contact Ray Proya via
email or phone at 1-800-860-7966 x106.
